Hello,
This month, we want to talk about something that’s becoming one of the most common scams targeting seniors today: Tech Support Scams.
If you’ve ever received a phone call, pop-up message, or email claiming “Your computer has a serious problem”, this is for you.
🚨 What Is a Tech Support Scam?
A tech support scam happens when someone pretends to be from a well-known company like Microsoft, Apple, or your internet provider and tells you there’s an urgent problem with your device.
They may:
- Call you unexpectedly
- Show a scary pop-up warning on your computer
- Ask you to download software or give them remote access
- Pressure you to pay immediately to “fix” the issue
Legitimate companies do not contact you this way.
⚠️ Warning Signs to Watch For
- Urgent language like “Act now” or “Your data will be lost”
- Requests for payment using gift cards, wire transfers, or crypto
- Asking for passwords or remote access
- Telling you not to talk to anyone else about the issue
If something feels rushed or frightening, pause. That’s exactly what scammers want to prevent you from doing.
